Dr. John D. Johnson is Founder, President and Executive Director of Docent Institute. He is also Founder/CEO and Chief Security Strategist of Aligned Security, Founding Member of Security Advisor Alliance, an advisor at Cybersecurity Collaborative, a member of SC Media Editorial Board, a board member for Cyber Education Foundation, and serves on advisory boards for security and emerging technology companies.
Dr. Johnson is a cybersecurity professor at Excelsior College where he has developed and taught numerous graduate cybersecurity courses. His current focus areas include: IoT and Industrial IoT/ICS security, applications and ethics of Artificial Intelligence, applications of Blockchain, Cybersecurity and Risk Management. Dr. Johnsonspent 18 years as security architect for John Deere, where he managed security infrastructure and developed strategy and secure architecture solutions for protecting a global corporate network, endpoints, industrial systems and the supply chain. His experience spans the public and private sectors, as well as industry verticals: technology, manufacturing, finance, energy, healthcare, education. Dr. Johnson was previously network security manager for the Theoretical Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory, and an experimental nuclear physicist developing radiation detection systems for nuclear remediation and non-proliferation.
Dr. Johnson is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and serves on several program committees, including: RSA Conference, Black Hat, InfowarCon, CornCon, and various IEEE conferences on emerging technologies such as blockchain and IoT. Over his career, he has served in leadership roles in technical and professional societies, including IEEE, InfraGard and (ISC)2. Dr. Johnson has maintained his CISSP and CRISC certifications and has received various awards in recognition of his contribution to the profession. He was runner up for 2014 Chicago CISO of the Year, he is also an IEEE Senior Member (SMIEEE), Charter Member of FAIR Institute and Distinguished Fellow of Ponemon Institute. Dr. Johnson is active with the infosec community and organizes K-12 STEM events and cybersecurity camps for kids.
